HOW TO REMAIN A PURPOSEFUL PERSON IN A DISTRACTION FILLED WORLD:
Purpose is very important in life. Until you have a purpose for your life, your life will hardly be relevant. No wind blows in favor of a ship without a destination. Your vision will be your destination. Australian governor Thomas Buxton once admitted that the longer he lives, the stronger becomes his conviction that the truest difference between success and failure, between the big and the small man, that separates boys from men, is nothing but a powerful aim in life, a purpose once fixed and then death or victory. According to him, “No perfect speech or manners, no culture or education, no pull or influence, can make a two-legged creature a man without it. I fully agree with the governor.
But despite the outstanding and blatant need of purpose in life, many people have still not yet decided the direction they want their lives to take.
Beside the fact that many people live a purposeless live, I have also made the grave observation that many others who have a purpose for their lives end up not sticking to that purpose because of the many distractions they encounter daily in this world. If you set a purpose for your life and end up not abiding by it, it would be a great loss and a terrible disaster.
The good news is that we can lead a purposeful life despite the many distractions we face daily in this world. Here are FOUR TIPS to make it possible:
TIP ONE: YOU SHOULD COMMUNICATE IT
The first most efficient way to remain a purposeful person is to communicate your purpose. The moment you communicate your purpose, it becomes like a debt that you must pay both to yourself and to those who heard it. When you voice out what you have planned in your mind, it becomes a psychological debt that you must pay to yourself first, and also pay to those you informed about it.
Use one of the following means to communicate your life’s purpose.
You can use the scriptures, a Bible verse may contain what you want to make of your life. In the case of our Lord Jesus it was Isaiah 61, after reading it as Luke reveals to us (Luke 4; 14-20) he declared that it was fulfilled in him.
You can use symbols. A visual representation of our concept can help us grasp it. Jesus used the symbol of the good shepherd to illustrate his mission (John 10; 1-18).”
You can use slogans. It has been proven that simple slogan, repeatedly shared with conviction, can motivate people to do things they would normally never do. The Lord Jesus said “the zeal of your house eats me up”
You can use Stories; you can narrate the story of one of your heroes, and declare that from now henceforth, you will follow the same course.
You can use Specifics. Always give practical, clear, concrete action steps that explain how you intend to fulfill your purpose. Nothing becomes dynamic until it becomes specific. When a vision is vague it holds no attraction. The more specific your life purpose is, the more it will grab attention and attract commitment. The Lord said, “the son of man is going to Jerusalem, where he shall be offered to sinners, and tortured to death.’
TIP TWO: YOU SHOULD ORGANIZE AROUND IT
The moment you have declared what you want your life to be, the next thing is to start organizing around that declared purpose immediately. You organize around your purpose by applying it. When you have a purpose for your life, it is only a dream. Even when you communicate it, it is still only a fantasy, but the moment you start to organize around it, it starts to be visible and applicable. You organize around your purpose by making it a priority in any decision you take. That priority in decision should be observed in the way you spend your time, spend your money, and choose your friends. For instance a person who wants to be a good preacher will prefer to buy an inspiring tape than to use the same money to buy a pair of shoes if he were to make a choice. You should take note that, the moment you start avoiding some things and doing some others because of your purpose, your purpose starts to be a reality to you.
TIP THREE: YOU SHOULD SPEAK ACCORDING TO YOUR PURPOSE
A person with a purpose can also use his words to keep his purpose in his mind. “My words must be the photograph of that future I desire.” States, Prophet T.B.Joshua. To keep your vision constant in mind you should be very careful with your conversation. You should select the type of words to use. You should not discuss things that make you doubt your dream, or give impression to people that you are not serious with your idea. You should avoid using discouraging words that contradict your purpose, and constantly use motivating and upgrading words.
TIP FOUR: YOU SHOULD EVALUATE ACCORDING TO YOUR VISION
When you have a purpose, constantly evaluate your life, always check whether you are still on tract and estimate how far you have gone. This constant evaluation will also help you discover when you are late in relation to some goals you had set to accomplish your purpose.
