I still remember that New Year evening. We when out with my brother who was so disgruntled because my parents could not afford him new pairs of shoes for the New Year feast. But on our way we met a cripple who was dancing and thanking God for the New Year he had seen. Then I looked at my brother who quickly confessed, “God is surely teaching me a lesson, if a person without legs can be thanking God for seen the New Year, why should I complain just because I don’t have a new pair of shoe?”
Many of us are very much like my brother we will forget all that God has done for us during 2015 and focus only on want we think God failed to do to us.

Start the New Year with plenty gratitude to God and practice all through the year. Gratitude is also an absolute principle of destiny fulfillment; it is the twenty-first of our series.

Gratitude is simply a feeling of thankfulness and appreciation. The Bible exhorts us to “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thess 5:18.NIV)”
A man came, and complaining to a Pastor said that all was bad in his life. He used words like: “I am all through”, “everything I have built up over my lifetime have been swept away”, “I have nothing left at all”, “everything is gone, there is no hope, and I am too old to start all over again”, “I haven’t a simple thing left.” The Pastor proposed to him that they should take a piece of paper and write down the values he had left. After some argument the man agreed to the proposal, and when they started taking down the values it was noticed that the man had a wonderful wife, three devoted children, good friends, his integrity, a good health, and a serious faith in God. Then the Pastor asked “I thought you told me everything had been swept away.” The man answered “I guess I didn’t think of those things. I never thought of it that way. Perhaps things are not so bad as that.”

Many of us complain of what we don’t have whereas we have many things for which we can acclaim. When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has opened for us. Let us be thankful, for gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others. When we develop the habit of being thankful for what we have and not thoughtful for what you don’t have it goes a long way to add excitement to our lives and maintain us on the way of success. Discontentment is a serious source of unhappiness and has robbed some people of their destiny. Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.
When we have the tendency of always bothering about what we don’t have, forgetting to be grateful for what we already have, it can make our lives very miserable. Be grateful for everything you have today, and everything you will get in the future. You’ll be surprised what a little act like this can do. Gratefulness enriches your life’s experience. A grateful attitude costs us nothing but pays us much. A grateful heart is among the things you can give and still keep. Why is “Thank You” so powerful you ask? Research shows that it is physiologically impossible to be in a state of appreciation and a state of fear at the same time. When you say ‘thank you, you focus your energy on what you have now rather than thinking of negative things of the past or worrying about the future. This gives you more energy right now to fight for the future. The more you “count your blessings,” naming them “one-by-one, “as the old hymn goes, the better, and happier, your day will be. Many people live in constant complaints because they assume that there is nothing in their lives to be grateful about but the truth is that a person who wants to be grateful will find reasons for thankfulness even in events that seem negative.

There is a good side even in bad events. One of the universal laws, the law of opposites (or polarity), states that everything has two equal and opposite sides. Every situation that looks bad has an equal amount of good; if you look for it. In life the worst experiences that you go through can eventually prove to be the greatest gifts. They are your teachers, and each one contains in it the seed of something astonishingly good for you. Though it takes a while to find it, it is always there. As surprisingly as it can appear, most of the times those who complain that they have nothing to be grateful for actually have many things they can be grateful about in their lives.
When you are stressed or fearful, start thinking of things that you can appreciate. Paul who became God’s champion did not have an easy life, actually he had many things he could complain about but he learned to live on the cheerful side of life and this attitude helped him to accomplish his destiny and became the champion we hear about today. Where ever you are now on your destiny course, be thankful to God for what you have done so far, and continue to fight for what is ahead. Who do you love? Who loves you? Do you have your health? What are you thankful for? Create several “thank you” phrases that you can recite when you find yourself feeling nervous, anxious, stressed or fearful. The route to destiny fulfillment is rough and sometimes very challenging but what you are fighting for is more than what is fighting you. For that reason, still be very thankful. Remember to express sincere gratitude for what you have received, and that gratitude will serve as a magnet to draw more abundance to you. The more you are grateful for what you have the more you will have what to be grateful for.
Be thankful; thank God that you are alive. Not everyone is so lucky. Be thankful for your job, it helps you provide food and a home for your family. Thank God for the skills to do the job. Or you might say. Be thankful for your health. Without it nothing else would matter, especially your job. You can develop a daily habit of making a list of things to be thankful for; it is a most helpful beginning-of-the-day technique. Quickly add up all the things for which you can be thankful, do it mentally, but if discouragement is particularly strong, list your life assets on paper so that your eyes may see, as well as your mind compute the number of blessings you possess. The more you count your blessings, naming them “one-by-one” as the old hymn says, the better, the happier your day will be. Add up every reason you can think of for feeling happy, thankful, and healthy. Stress even the most basic things. Then simply thank God. As you practice adding up reasons for health and excitement, you’ll be surprised at how many reasons you will find. It is a basic law of the spirit, mind, and body.

Many people who are depressive do so most of the time simply because of ungratefulness, because no matter what you lose that makes you think of crying, there are still many things left which can make you think of singing. Gratitude is so important because it is a very high energy positive vibration of thought. It is powerfully attractive!

Live a life of gratefulness, it will add happiness and excitement to your life and help you finish your journey of success. Find the good in every situation, and be thankful for it! This shifts the energy to what you want. Look at your life and find what works. Focus on that and see that you can be grateful for it! Everyone has something to be happy about. When you are grateful for what you already have, you open the channel for more to come. The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.

Take a sheet of paper and fill the paper with things you are grateful for. Make sure you have at least 25 – 30 items and that you have a few items from every area of your life. Include your finances, health, career, relationships, toys, recreation and anything else you can think of. I recommend that you do it daily for the next month to get these new habits in your brain.

Gratitude will keep you in close harmony with creative thought and prevent you from falling into competitive thought. It will keep you from the error of thinking that the supply of life is limited – and thinking that would be fatal to your aims. Those who succeed to carry the race of success to the finish line among other secret, practice gratitude. Do same in 2016 and you will also finish well!
God bless you
