Have you ever abandon your worthy project halfway? It may be:
-a house you were building
-a degree you were pursuing
-a business you were starting
-a fitness program you were following
-or even a girl you were dating for marriage
The terrifying remark I have made is that despite the devastating feeling one may experience for abandoning a worthy project halfway, many people still quit before they have accomplish a worthy course they were following. This fact of people often abandoning their great plan that could have unfailingly blessed them and others halfway prompted me to carry a careful investigation into the issue. My inquiries lead me to discover that either of these two factors:
-obstacles underlies any abandoned venture.
I did not end my investigations at discovering the cause of capitulation; I push my inquiry forward to discover whether there is way to fight this deadly habit of quitting before getting. And I have got some good news I have discovered two secrets to finish any thing we start. These secrets are apparently simple but practically very efficient against quitting habits.
HOW TO FINISH ANY THING YOU START EVEN IF YOU MAKE MISTAKES AND FACE OBSTACLES?
These are two secrets:
1-ALWAYS GET UP FROM YOUR MISTAKES
Apostle Peter in the Bible is a perfect illustration of someone who got up from a terrible fall to accomplish a great destiny. Peter committed the worst mistake that a man can commit; he denied the Lord Jesus. Jesus is the one who can forget all the mistakes we commit, but, went we make the mistake of denying him what else remains except that we are doomed? But the Lord is gracious he always gives another chance even in our worst. Simon Peter had denied the Lord in the heat of trial. The Lord made him after His resurrection by the sea Tiberias, and gave him another change. Peter seized it, and his comeback was amazing as he rose up to become the leading apostle among the eleven. On the day of Pentecost he made a speech and three thousand souls were converted.
Committing mistakes is a sure experience on the road to success, only those who do nothing at all make no mistakes. To pursue a failure-free life is to run after an elusive fantasy; it is a waste of mental and physical energy. Every living person commits some mistakes.
THERE ARE MANY REASONS WHY WE COMMIT MISTAKES
These are some of them:
At times life’s circumstances are in our favor, and work for our happiness, peace, and contentment. During those moments we have smooth sailing, and everything goes pleasantly. But at other times without choosing it, we experience rough weather, storms, circumstances that are beyond our control and force us to make some mistakes. I met a young girl who sorrowfully admitted to me that she prostitutes because of live difficult circumstances. Critical life Circumstances may push us to act unwisely or improperly. During those embarrassing moments people buffet us for our faults. We are ridiculed or condemned. Our names are on the tongue of the gossips, and we have no one to blame but ourselves.
• The devil at times, cause us to make mistakes
For some reason, we are left liable to Satan’s attacks. God Could shut him clear away from this world, just as he has shut him away from heaven, if he chose. But for some purpose he sees fit to let us be exposed to his attacks here. Apostle Peter failed by the devil’s temptation, but when the opportunity came to recover he did, and finally became the great apostle that we all know about. “No robber robs an empty house,” Bishop T.D. Jakes. The devil knows a bit of what you are worth that is why he fights you, but never allow his blows to keep you down.
• Divine trial
Sometimes God Himself tries or proves us. The Purpose of God trying us is often that we may know ourselves. If we become self-sufficient, or go to rejoicing in our own works, he will likely send upon us or permit to come upon us something that will bring us to know our insufficiency and need of help from him. Mistakes are often the only thing that can help us to know our own weakness; so God Often lets us commit some of them in order to bring us to our senses.
HOW TO EFFECTIVELY DEAL WITH MISTAKES
Experts propose the following steps in dealing with Mistakes:
Seek comfort and seek solution. Failure brings pain and disappointment, it is thus good to stop first and obtain some comfort. Never pretend as if nothing has happened, rather acknowledge your failure and accept the pain that comes with it and then seek for comfort. But don’t fall in the trap of staying comfortable. Lick your wounds so to speak, prepare for a new effort, and then go for solution to the problem. Avoid the two extremes; never look for solution without first looking for comfort and never stay in the comfort that you refused to look for a solution and try again.
Next, talk about your disappointment with someone intelligent and caring; someone you can trust. This person will help give you the comfort and advice you need to recover from your disappointment. You can write down your feelings. If you are angry, let it spill out on paper. Deal with how you really feel, don’t avoid it. Talk with people who have also known disappointment. Find out how they dealt with it, what they learned.
Moreover, don’t press the panic button. It is true that we have to do something when things are going wrong. But doing something doesn’t mean that you should press the panic button. When something is going wrong, keep your focus on the desired result. Don’t lament the past forever, don’t panic instead plan your strategy for your next step.
In addition, always reinforce your steps of success. This you do by concentrating more on the rewards of success. Always learn the lessons you need to learn from difficulties even destructive confrontations and failures. Try not to repeat those same situations again if at all possible. The harder you are thrown the higher you can bounce; you can turn the scars of your failures into stars of success. This, if you are willing to get up and continue each time you fail.
Next, Set internal standards for excellence. Accept yourself as you are, but keep upgrading your standards and adapting your behavior to the situation. Remember that the ability to adapt is everything. Failure is the opportunity to begin again, more intelligently. The most important lesson one can learn from his life is not that there is pain in this world, but that it depends upon him to turn it into a good account, that it is possible for him to transmute it into joy. There is no gain without pain.
Finally, never forget that when a door closes another swings wide open, don’t look at the closed door that you missed, look at the one that is opening. When failure closes one door, many other doors get wide open, therefore each time you fail, gather your pieces dust yourself and push a new door and enter.
You remember I said that from my investigations, two factors are responsible for unfinished projects, Mistakes and obstacles. The first secret we are just from discovering helps us to solve and deal with our mistakes and follow through with what we were undertaking. We now move to the secret that helps us deal with obstacles.
SECRET TWO BE PERSISTENT
People are like Kolas. In a village in the north-west region of Cameroon, after kolas are harvested they are spread on the floor and sorted in order to get the maximum money from buyers. They are divided according to size—big, medium and small. It is only after kolas are sorted and bagged that they are loaded onto trucks. This is the method that all farmers of that village use, except one. One farmer never bothered to sort the kolas at all. Yet he seemed to be making the most money. A confused neighbor finally asked him “What is your secret?” He said, “It’s simple. I just load up my small truck with kolas and take the roughest road to town. During the eight-mile trip, the little kolas always fall to the bottom the medium kolas land in the middle, while the big kolas rise to the top.” That’s not only true to Kolas. It is a law of life. Big kolas rise to the top on rough roads, and tough people rise to the top in rough times.
There must be a beginning to any great matter, but continuing to the end until it be thoroughly finished yields true glory. What Historian Edward Eggleston said that “Persistent people begin their success where others end in failure,” is true. To be able to finish any thing you start, you simply need to take the resolution that come rain come sun you are not going quit. That until you finish you are not going set down. Having such a state of mind is very necessary at the beginning of any undertaking which is serious as in the long run you will remember your initial resolution and keep on.
SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE HAVE ALWAYS BELIEVED IN THE POWER OF PERSISTENCE
Effort only fully releases its reward after a person refuses to quit.” You become a champion by fighting one more round. When things are tough, you fight one more round, be willing to do whatever it takes to achieve your goal. Successful people have learned to fail their way to success; Success is going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.
Success, to a large extent, is a matter of persistence. That is, if you keep trying, keep developing yourself and keep making adjustments along the way, you are going to succeed. Success seems to be largely a matter of hanging on after others have let go.
When obstacles arise, you change your direction to reach your goal; you do not change your decision to get there. There are no traffic jams on the extra mile. The winners in life know that you crawl before you walk and you walk before you run. After all, becoming proficient at any skill requires time, effort and discipline, and the willingness to persevere through whatever difficulties may arise.
According to former United State president, Calvin Coolidge, Great people are ordinary people with extraordinary amount of determination. He admits that nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. He argues, “Talents will not take the place of persistence; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Geniuses will not, the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination are important.” The slogan ‘press on ‘has always solved the problems of the human race. When armed with persistence and courage, shortcomings can become springboards to fulfillment, many people who fail to succeed did not realize how close to success they were before they gave up.
You measure the size of the accomplishment by the obstacles you had to overcome to reach your goals we may not realize it when we are facing them, but obstacles that we face and overcome only make us. If having a dream and committing to its ultimate achievement is something like plotting your final destination ahead of an exciting journey, then persistence is rather like the engine you need in order to get there.
If Joseph had not been in the prison, he would not have had the contact that finally linked him to the throne in Egypt. Remember, too, that all who succeed in life get off to a bad start, and pass through many heartbreaking struggles before they arrive. The turning point in the lives of those who succeed usually comes at the moment of some crisis, through which they are introduced to their other selves. Accept that fact, every mountain has a peak. Every valley has its low point. Life has its ups and downs, its peaks and its valleys. No one is up all the time, nor is down all the time.
A word of caution,
The biggest threat to persistence is lacking the energy to do so. This can happen in three main ways:
• through physical tiredness;
• mental or emotional exhaustion;
• and spiritual fatigue.
We should try as much as possible to remain fresh physically; this can be done through controlled and selected eating habits, and through physical exercises.
We stay mentally fresh by taking sufficient rest and controlled relaxation.
We can stay spiritually fresh by praying, and listening to spiritual songs and messages. Anyhow, persist because by getting up from your mistakes and by persistence you will surely be able to finish any thing you start.
GOD BLESS YOU
